On 10 August 2026, the RICS published a new version of the APC candidate guide on its website. Aside from minor grammatical changes, the areas of difference to the prior version dated December 2025 are as follows:

  • Addition on page 2

From 1 January 2026, applicants have up to four attempts to pass the Chartered assessment and can apply for a fifth and final attempt after completing a period of 12 months’ further experience. Any attempts prior to 1 January 2026 do not count towards the total allowed.”

  • Additions on page 3

“The counsellor must be appointed in the Assessment Platform when you enrol.”

“When nominating your counsellor, RICS provides a Counsellor commitment statement, which you and your counsellor must read and sign. It sets out the responsibilities you both have.”

  • Page 9 (CPD section) : This constitutes the main area of change with both additions and omissions to reflect the update to CPD policy. A change worth noting is the statement below:

“if you are on a part-time or distance learning accredited degree, RICS will consider your final year as counting towards your CPD for the 12-month period. This should be supplemented by other CPD activities for that period.”

  • Page 17 (Interview table)
  • Addition on Page 19

“Applicants have up to four attempts to pass the Chartered assessment and can apply for a fifth and final attempt after completing a period of 12 months’ further experience.”
